The secret of effective surgical treatment of snoring and sleep apnea is the correct detection of what the disease stems from and to organize a treatment plan compatible with the patient.
Simple Snoring Surgery
Simple snoring is defined as snoring not accompanied with apnea. Snoring which frequently depends on narrowness in upper respiratory tract can simple be corrected with interventions for nasal congestions or sotf palate. In some patients, tonsils which occupy a large place inside mouth may need to be removed. If we detect a problem with both nose and soft palate, we can also perform operation on both regions together.
Snoring and Sleep Apnea Surgery
In cases sleep apnea accompanies snoring, it can be considered that it curves down and clog respiratory tract during sleep due to overloosening and dangling of soft palate or tongue base in giant size. In some rare cases, cartilage tissues in laryngeal region may also cause sleep apnea. After detecting from what region the problem stems from precisely, sleep apnea may be eliminated with a correct surgical planning. Today the risks in an operation are minimized with new techniques in UPP operation that we perform on soft palate. Previously tonsils were removed in each UPP operation classically but now tonsils are not touched unless it is considered necessary.
Tongue Base Surgeries
On our patients whose tongue bases curve down and clog the respiration, we perform Sleep-in (Tongue base suspension) if s/he cannot use CPAP. Tongue base of the patients with big tongues occupying the oral cavity, which curves down during sleep is anchored to the jawbone, which stops it from curving down.
Is Snoring Surgery Painful?
There is no pain in nose surgeries because we do not apply tampon procedure in any of our surgical techniques that we perform on nose for snoring. However, you will have difficulty in swallowing, which is quite frequent in tonsils operation, for a week on average in procedures that we perform on soft palate and tongue region. Painkilling treatment we offer after the operation relieves our patients .
Especially in treatment of simple snoring snoring may be eliminated through Pillar Implant procedure if soft palate of the patients is suitable.
What is Pillar Implant?
It consists of three small woven inserts, and is in 18mm in length and 2mm in diameter. These inserts manufactured in sterile environment with advanced technology are implanted in the muscular tissue of the soft palate.
How does it affect?
After placing the inserts into the soft palate, it enables formation of a hard scar inside the loose and dangling tissues of the soft palate by creating an unidentified material reaction. Therefore, soft palate that loosens and vibrates and makes noise during sleep cannot go on doing those, so snoring noise disappears.
How is it applied?
Pillar Implant is performed within such a short time as nearly 10 minutes under local anaesthesia. After the procedure, you can immediately go home or to work. There will be no pain.
When will my snoring disappear?
Since there will be a very slight swelling in tissues immediately after the procedure, snoring will not disappear within the first week, even it may increase. Snoring will reduce within the first month and snoring will disappear within three months thanks to recovery tissue inside the palate.
Why Pillar Ä°mplant?
Pillar Implant procedure is more advantageous rather than other techniques in convenient patients. It is the most painless method used in treatment of snoring and it is easy and short to perform. It is not risky as it does not harm the tissue irreversibly. It does not cause any workforce loss because it does not prevent the person from daily activities during recovery.
Can it be used for Sleep Apnea?
Pillar Implant does not help patients with severe sleep apnea. We may observe recovery in patients with really mild apnea accompanied with simple snoring.
